The different rooms such as bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and dining room have slightly different requirements, but the basic step by step instructions are the same for all rooms. For clarity, I’ll be laying out step by step instructions for painting a living room.

Step 1 – Tape Room
Apply tape to the bottom of the sockets and under any baseboard heaters. Use tape standard beige or brown carpets, NOT the blue painter’s tape. And buy the most expensive tape fractures cheapest type and is very difficult to implement. On the carpet, blue painter’s tape is released. You can use blue tape on hardwood or tile. Make sure to remove the tape within two days, otherwise it will split and be very difficult to remove.
Step 2 – Place the covers
Once the tape is in place, put drop cloths. Cover furniture with thicker plastic. Hotels thin plastic covers are difficult to deploy, and were easily separated. Butty vinyl or canvas drop cloths are best for plants, but are expensive and are mainly used by professional painters like me. You may want to buy some of them, easily folded and can be stored away, but if you do not want to spend the money, get into the habit of saving old shower curtains and plastic tablecloths. You can use plastic covers, which are cheap, but they have a tendency to move. DO NOT use the newspapers as rags. Paint stores sell drop cloths having a paper side and a plastic face. These are really very good. They Put the paper up. The paper will absorb splashes of paint and plastic paint keeps reaching the ground.
Step 3 – Identify existing paint
Before you buy your paint, determine if the existing paint is oil-based or latex. Often, baseboards, wooden windows and other decorations are oil based. You can not apply latex paint over oil-based paint or oil-based paint over latex paint. Will peel and leave strips. It is simple to determine what type of paint you have. Put some denatured alcohol on a clean cloth and rub the surface of the paint. If some clean paint off the rag, it is latex based. If not, it is oil based. The only way to change the base paint is the first layer around the lining with an oil base primer / sealer. Then you can apply any base you wish. Base primer / sealer oil is extremely volatile, and requires an approved respirator. Good ventilation is not enough, you need to use the respirator. They are not cheap, but you may be able to pick one up at the paint or hardware store for about $ 20. A paper mask is not enough, you will get sick from the fumes.
Step 4 – Pick your color
I have a good suggestion for selecting paint color. Use the graphics shows continuous color you can get in the paint store until you’ve made a decision, then buy a pint of paint mixed in the shade and apply several square feet areas with paint in different areas of the room. You can see a difference between samples on the wall and small strips of color. If you’re buying new furniture or carpets, keep this in mind when choosing your color.
Step 5 – Repair walls and caulking
Patch all holes and cracks with putty or joint compound. There are also products that speckle dry faster. Use a putty knife to apply 6-inch putty knife and a 2-inch to load the putty knife putty larger. Spackle shrinks as it dries, so you have to speckle slightly, then sand and putty and sand again. Cloth tape should be placed over the cracks that the crack is less likely to break down over time. Use a very light coating on the tape to “adjust” the tape. Fans can be used for faster drying and heat gun or hair dryer. Clean dust from the surfaces to be painted and along baseboards. Use a caulking gun and caulk around all baseboards, windows and door frames. Caulking makes it a very nice job.
Step 6 – Painting
Laying painting is the last and easiest step. Now you are ready to paint the room, here are some tips you will not find anywhere else. Most instructive articles painting room to start first by saying “cut” around windows, baseboards and ceiling lines with a width of 3 inches of paint. This is a waste of time and paint. First, you turn the room completely, then all the roller does not cover, “interrupted” or brush painting. You will find that you only need to cover about ½ inch.
When you get, do not use the M or W pattern suggest many other items.
