Loft Conversion Myths Busted

Loft conversions can add value to your house, and give you more space. Some people are afraid to do any work in their home for fear that they will not be able to adhere to certain rules, regulations and planning permissions. Here we clear up a few misconceptions about loft conversions:

Toilets can be used anywhere

In the past, the toilet was separated from the other rooms with a ventilated hallway (for hygienic reasons). The building regulations have relaxed a little bit on this issue, as long as there is a sink and ventilation in the toilet. If you want to add a bathroom to your loft extension you can do it relatively easily. For Loft Conversions Bristol, visit www.caineslofts.co.uk

There’s no room type ratio that you must adhere to

You own your loft conversion. There is no requirement for more than one bathroom based on the number of bedrooms in your house (unless you rent it to more than five people!). Balance is important in any home. If you don’t have the space to build a complete bathroom, it can be beneficial to add a bathroom that is en suite.

There’s no minimum height for ceilings

The legal minimum ceiling height is no longer part of the Building Regulations. However, there is a practical minimum that you should consider when planning your loft conversion. Lofts should have an ideal minimum floor-to-ceiling height of 2.1 metres throughout. In any room with a sloping ceiling, 50% of the space must also have this height.
