One third of office workers will not return to their place of work until 2021. That’s according to research carried out by YouGov. Workers made the switch from office to home working back in March when the Covid-19 pandemic began to tighten its grip on the UK. Spare rooms, bedrooms, conservatories and kitchen tables became the norm.

A quarter expect to return to work in 2021
The survey of 4,000 workers has revealed that one quarter said they expected to return to their place of work sometime in 2021. However 8% of those surveyed said they expected to continue the work-from-home routine for the foreseeable future. A total of 80% said they would like to continue working at home for at least one day a week.
The figures also revealed that 21% felt worried about the risk of Covid-19 during their journey to work while 30% were concerned about contracting it in the office. A sizeable 45% of people just did not want to make the commute to work. A total of 56% respondents said their employer is asking them to continue the work-at-home practice.
Some major firms such as PricewaterhouseCoopers and Schroders have said that most of their employees will not be expected to come back to the workplace on a full-time basis even after the coronavirus pandemic subsides. Banks, insurance companies and accountancy firms are also introducing plans for employees to work at home more regularly, as they have demonstrated that the arrangement works.
