Or should we say ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’ – Land of my Fathers in Welsh – which of course is the Welsh national anthem. Wales is a spectacular and interesting country full of history, scenic mountains, bustling beach resorts – and of course sheep (who outnumber humans four to one in Wales!). Once you have been bitten by the Welsh bug you will want to keep coming back and discovering more as there is always so much more to discover! If history is what you love, then you will adore the vast number of castles scattered across the country – from the spectacular Cardiff Castle in the South, which is over 2000 years old and really is a fairy-tale castle – to the amazing Penrhyn Castle in the North – where you can enjoy a walk around the beautiful gardens before investigating the castle – there is something for everyone. In fact, Wales has more castles per square mile the any other country in the world!
If you are more into building your own castles (made of sand), then Wales has an amazing assortment of beaches to offer too – from rugged, picture perfect coves on the Isle of Anglesey, to perfect soft sand beaches, ideal for families in Tenby. It is even home to Pendine sands, the beach where the land speed record was broken! If it is beaches that you are in search of, then what you need is Welsh Coast Campers – you can go to the whenever and wherever you fancy! The Mumbles in Swansea is world famous for it’s glorious beaches, and is also a great place to try the more daredevil water sports!
If it is dramatic mountaintop views you are after, there are also plenty of those! Head to Snowdonia National Park, home to Mount Snowdon, the highest peak in Wales. Whether you are a skilled rock climber, or prefer a country walk, the views from Mount Snowdon are spectacular. There are several walking routes across Snowdonia, so pick whatever takes your fancy – and if you can’t get in all in, then come back again for more! The Brecon Beacons in South Wales are also an amazing place to take in the views. Take a stroll through the scenic walking routes, and finish the day off at a country pub for the ultimate day out! You will never get bored of coming back again and again!
